Michael Handwerk, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and their families. Dr. Handwerk has been practicing for more than 25 years in diverse settings including residential care, IOP/PHP, inpatient, community mental health, and traditional outpatient. After receiving his doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997, Dr. Handwerk began his career at Boys Town, a residential treatment facility for adolescents in Omaha, NE, where he spent 10 years as Director of Clinical Services, Research, and Internship Training. After leaving Boys Town, he accepted a position as Coordinator of Outpatient Behavioral Health at Harrisburg Medical Center in southern Illinois where he served a largely rural population. He moved to the Chicago area in 2017 where he was the Director of Psychological Services and Student Training at a large inpatient psychiatric hospital for 5 years. For the last 2 years, he has been in private practice.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Handwerk has published more than 30 articles and book chapters, supervised over 100 pre- and post-doctoral graduate students, and provided outpatient services to over a thousand children, adolescents, adults, and their families.
