Anthony Tharpe is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, with a Master’s degree in Social Work and Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University. He has worked with the formerly incarcerated population, individuals who experience alcohol and/or drug use disorders, seniors, and individuals who suffer from mild-to-severe mental illnesses. He has provided group and individual therapy in both outpatient and inpatient behavioral health settings.
Being a helping professional is one of the most rewarding aspects of Anthony’s life, and his decision to become a social worker feels like a natural fit. Growing up in Cabrini-Green Housing, raised by his mother in a single-parent household, Anthony witnessed the devastating effects of substance abuse, incarceration, and mental illness on individuals and families. At the same time, he observed the remarkable resilience of those who achieved restoration—finding improved mental and physical health, joy, peace, and a sense of responsibility.
These experiences ignited Anthony’s passion for supporting others facing similar challenges. He finds deep fulfillment in using his knowledge, skills, and lived experience to help individuals and families achieve their goals. Anthony looks forward to the opportunity to work with others on their journey toward growth and well-being.
